The University

Assumption University of Thailand.

Known in Thailand as ABAC. Founded in 1969, granted university status in 1990, and from the beginning taught entirely in English — the first Thai university to do so.

  • Origins

Founded by the Brothers of St. Gabriel

The Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel are a Catholic teaching congregation running roughly 120 institutions in 33 countries — schools, technical institutes and orphanages. Assumption began as Assumption Business Administration College, which is where the name ABAC comes from, and grew into a full university.

  • India link

The same congregation runs Montfort schools in India

Including Montfort Senior Secondary School in Delhi. For an Indian family, this is not a marketing line — it means Assumption sits inside a teaching tradition they can already check on locally.

  • Language

English from the first day, not a translated programme

Instruction, assessment and administration all run in English. There is no Thai-language requirement to clear before your degree begins, and no separate "international stream" bolted onto a local one.

  • Cohort

3,700 international students from 97 countries

Taught by more than 200 international faculty from over 35 countries. An Indian student arrives into an already-international cohort — that changes the classroom, and it changes how quickly you settle.

  • Ranking

Thailand's #1 private university, three years running

Ranked first among Thailand's private universities by UniRank in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

  • Outcomes

95% of graduates in work within a year of graduating

Across graduating classes 47 to 51. Employers include Google, SCG, Toyota, Lazada, PTT and AIS — among Thailand's top 20 companies.

  • Standing

Accredited by OHEC, assessed by ONESQA

Thailand's Office of the Higher Education Commission accredits the university; ONESQA is the national quality-assurance body that assesses it. Both are verifiable on the Thai side.

  • India

The degree is valid in India — AIU authorised

Confirmed by the India Office. This is the question every Indian family asks first, and it is the one most foreign universities answer vaguely. Ask us for the reference in writing and we will send it.

The India Office

What the Chennai office actually does.

Three mandates, one team. If you are not sure which one you need, write to us anyway and we will route it.

Mandate 01

Student recruitment

Guiding Indian applicants through programme choice, eligibility, documents, fees, scholarships, the ED visa and arrival — for master's, doctoral and short programmes.

Mandate 02

Institutional collaboration

Building twinning programmes, semester-abroad arrangements, student and faculty exchange, joint workshops and study visits with Indian colleges and deemed universities.

Mandate 03

Corporate programmes

Designing executive workshops and short programmes with Assumption faculty for Indian companies, delivered in India, in Bangkok, or across both.

One office, three doors. The same Chennai team answers all three. Contact details, including the Bangkok graduate office, are on the contact page.
