Twinning & credit transfer

Two routes. One of them ends with an Assumption degree.

Twinning and semester abroad both put an Indian student on the Bangkok campus. Students, and parents, routinely confuse them — and the difference is the single most important thing on this page.

ROUTE A · TWINNING Partner college, India Semesters 1–2 credits carried Assumption, Bangkok Remaining semesters awards DEGREE AWARDED BY Assumption University of Thailand ROUTE B · SEMESTER ABROAD Home college, India Full programme one semester Assumption, Bangkok One semester credits back DEGREE AWARDED BY Your home institution
Both routes put the student on the Bangkok campus. They diverge at the end: in twinning the degree is Assumption's; in semester abroad the credits travel back and the home institution awards the degree. Credit transfer happens only after the programme has been validated between the two institutions.
Validation

How credits actually move.

  1. Both institutions

    Curriculum mapping

Academic staff on both sides map the two programmes module by module — learning outcomes, contact hours, credit weight and assessment. This is the real work, and it is where an arrangement either becomes possible or does not.

  2. Both institutions

    Programme validation

The mapped programme is validated by each institution's own academic authority. Credits transfer only after this step is complete — a student cannot rely on an informal understanding between two departments.

  3. Written

    Credit-transfer agreement

The validated mapping is recorded in a written agreement, so a student who transfers in year two is not renegotiating their own transcript.

  4. Per student

    Student enrolment and transfer

Students are enrolled under the agreed structure from the start, not retrofitted into it later. For twinning this determines which registry holds the record and which institution issues the degree.

  5. On completion

    Transcript and award

Under twinning, Assumption issues the transcript and the degree. Under semester abroad, Assumption issues a transcript for the semester and the home institution incorporates the credits into its own award.

The degree is valid in India. Assumption is AIU authorised, so a twinning graduate holds a degree recognised for further study and employment in India. Ask us for the reference in writing.
Fees on a twinning route are agreed per partnership. The split between the India-side and Bangkok-side semesters, the minimum cohort size and which institution bills the student are all settled in the agreement — ask the India Office for the structure that applies to your college.
